Women in Ag Magazine 2024-002

The new issue of Women in Ag Magazine is out! This new issue illustrates what the spring of 2024 has been for us: busy, a rollercoaster of emotions and filled with inspiring encounters. We visited a farm run by four generations of women during our holiday in the south of France, introduce our new mental health partner and went on a very yummy farm visit in the Netherlands.

Our first encounter is Petra Mayböck-Froschauer, egg farmer in the Austrian town of Taufkirchen an den Pram. Petra took over her parents’ farm as an only daughter and has never even been questioned about who’s the boss on her farm. Next, we give you a glimpse of our holiday in the south of France and the wonderful day we spent on the Notre Dame des Couleurs farm, run by Marie-Claude, Isabelle, Solenne and Isaure.

Our next stop is Mezquital, Mexico where influencer Gina Gutierrez advocates for her profession of dairy farmer with her Facebook and Instagram pages La vida láctea. We also had the opportunity to talk to Dr. Ute David, AGCO Plant Manager in Feught, Germany, who is this issue’s Outsider. Our More Than Farming feature is an absolute treat: we have a visit to a chocolate factory in store for you! Linda Kopczinski runs “Boerin Linda”, her artisan chocolate workshop where she creates bonbons based on the milk provided by Brownie the cow.

This edition, we introduce our new mental health awareness partner Do More Agriculture Foundation, who will provide us with mental health advice from now on. For this issue, they addressed loneliness on the farm (and what to do). For our book review, Antoon took a French book with him on holiday and read Les Sillons que l’on Trace by Anne-Cécile Suzanne. Unfortunately, there’s no translation to English available yet but the book comes highly recommended by the French farming community. Last but not least, our columnist Judith De Vor talks about politics and the place of women there. A very hot topic in this election year for Europe, the UK and the USA.

The third edition of the Women in Ag Awards 2024 at EuroTier Hannover is confirmed and subscriptions are open! Read all about the awards and how to participate in the magazine.

Mental well-being in young farmers

Evy Mettepenningen   The mental well-being of farmers has been under pressure for a while. A recent study by the Belgian Agriculture and Fisheries Agency shows that well-being among Flemish farmers has been systematically declining over the past decade and is lower than that of the average Flemish person. What about farmers-to-be, the new generation […]
