Women in Ag Mag 2022-001

Happy first birthday, Women in Ag! We proudly present the first edition of 2022, out just a little after the launch birthday on March 8.

This new issue brings you not two, but three encounters. We meet Jessica and Sandra who run South Carolina dairy goat farm Split Creek Farm and follow their love for their animals first, we talk to Paris city girl turned Italian winegrower Adeline Maillard and discover life on a female dominated farm with Irish dairy farmer Paula Hynes. Biology department chair and small-scale farmer Christa Evangelisto talks about the similar difficulties women in STEM and in agriculture encounter, while Emma McCormack explains why it is so important to make time for yourself every day, especially as a farmer, and our columnist Melanie Epp shares about her learning ‘men’s jobs’ and how it feels to break the stereotypes with us.

And since it’s a new year, there’s also a few new things to discover! You may have noticed the new format and look of our magazine, that now has a brand new feature to discover: “Influencer”. In this feature, we talk to an agricultural influencer or “agvocate” who helps bridging the gap between food producers and consumers by addressing facts and fiction about our industry on their online channels. Our first influencer is Tara Vander Dussen or, as she is better known online, the New Mexico Milkmaid!

The stories for our next issue of Women in Ag Magazine, due June 2022, are already pouring in as women from around the world discover our magazine and want to share their inspiring stories with us. It is already clear that we will have a few difficult choices to make once we start putting together this second issue, but it warms our hearts to know that all these amazing women from our industry trust us with their stories and decide to help inspire others by sharing them with us. It is an honour and a privilege to write them.

We hope you enjoy reading this latest issue!

As always, if you have suggestions or stories to share with us, please get in touch and who knows, we might feature your story!
